Your form says “sent”.
The email never arrives.
Find the last step you can confirm. A success screen, a sending log and a message in the intended inbox are different pieces of evidence.
- 01Form entryDid the site receive it?
- 02Sending serviceWas the email accepted?
- 03Intended inboxCan the recipient find it?
Where does the trail stop?
Open the step you need. No website address, login or upload is required to use this guide.
01The form entry is missingCheck the website before changing email settings.
If your form stores entries, look for the marked test. If it is absent, check the visible validation result, spam entries and the form's own logs. Record an error before changing the setup.
No entry history is not proof of failure. Contact Form 7 does not save messages by itself; its documentation describes Flamingo for storage. Other plugins and plans differ. Contact Form 7: message storage.
If nothing was stored or logged, mark this step unverified. Do not disable spam protection to make a test pass.
02The entry exists, but the email does notCheck notification settings and the sending log.
Check that the notification is enabled, its conditions match the test, and the recipient is correct. Find the same message in your SMTP or email provider's activity, including any rejection, delay or suppression reason.
If there is no matching event, inspect the form's notification log and sending configuration. Missing or expired logs leave this step unverified; they do not establish the cause.
For Contact Form 7, use a site-domain address in From and the visitor's address in Reply-To. Follow your sending provider's authentication instructions. Changing MX records or repeatedly resetting passwords is not a general fix for this symptom. Contact Form 7: mail setup.
03The provider says delivered, but the inbox is emptyCheck the recipient's side of the journey.
Ask the intended recipient to search the exact reference in Inbox, Spam and other folders. Check filters, forwarding and any organisation quarantine with their mail administrator.
For example, Postmark's Delivered status means the receiving server accepted the email. It does not guarantee placement in the inbox. Share the message ID and time privately with the responsible mail administrator if the message cannot be found. Postmark: missing messages.
A copy arriving at your address proves that copy's route. Confirm the original recipient's route separately, then check who is responsible for responding.
A useful handoff
Keep the evidence small.
Give your developer or mail administrator the reference, page, time, expected recipient and last confirmed step. Keep customer messages and credentials out of shared screenshots.
